Purpose: To enable growth through public and personal worship of God, creative expression and contemplation.

Creative Expression Ministry encompasses many forms of musical and dramatic expressions of devotion to God. Vocal and instrumental interludes during worship are designed to help us pray, petition, and praise God. To encourage spiritual growth, we use voice, instruments, drama, sacred movement, dramatic staging, and the fine arts to enable both personal and public creative expressions of the Spirit.

The Music Program offers many outlets for creative expression and it continues to grow and adapt to its members' needs. Our congregation enjoys an adult choir, and a seasonal choir that sings during Advent and Lent. In addition, we offer two children's choirs (ages 4 through 1st grade, and 2nd through 5th grade) and a youth choir (grades 6-12). This program is stylistically diverse and rich in opportunities for musicians to employ their talents in God's praise.

Instrumental Music aids worship and currently includes piano, organ, handbells (youth and adult), an orchestra and a praise band. Our pipe organ is a major vehicle of creative expression. It is a 47-rank organ built in 1972 by Charles McManis of Kansas City.

Drama and Dramatic Staging is often used by our senior minister to enhance worship. Sacred dance is also an occasional addition in worship.

The Calvary Fine Arts Show continues annually to encourage creativity. Shows are scheduled throughout the year. We wish to allow everyone at Calvary the opportunity to display their work and be affirmed for that creative spirit.

Christianity and Culture in Contemporary Literature Book Group allows Calvary members to reflect on contemporary novels from ethical, theological, psychological, and other perspectives in order to integrate one's faith with the affective and intellectual dimensions of life.

Kairos Ministry comprises those church programs and activities that foster contemplation and time with God. Kairos programs include monthly worship services in the style of the Taizé community, regular opportunities to walk a labyrinth, an annual women's spirituality conference, an annual men’s spirituality conference, the CareNotes display, healing services, and an open, comfortable prayer room.

Kairos provides outreach—in the Taizé services in particular—to appeal to those who have dropped out of mainstream Christianity or the institutional church. This option is highly ecumenical and promotes reconciliation and contemplation.
