The future is now
This profile describes—at least in part—what makes
Calvary a special place to learn, grow and worship.
While we recognize these strengths, we also see this as a
time of transition. Changes in how Americans view going
to church as well as changes in the wider world tell us
that churches of the future will look different than they
do today. We are open to new possibilities that may arise
during our pastoral search process and beyond.
A number of broad themes emerged during our inventory
and data-gathering process with regard to significant
opportunities at Calvary. There is a sense of willingness
to take steps to address these opportunities and begin
moving ahead. While honoring Calvary’s past and
present, we look forward with optimism at Calvary’s
potential and stand poised to make that future a reality.
These are the primary themes identified.
- Establish relevant, innovative and exciting ministry
programs for youth, young adults and families with
young children
- Expand the existing worship experience to include new
ways of worship
- Intentionally and thoughtfully grow our membership
with people who have a strong commitment to faith,
service and stewardship
- Address our aging church facility to ensure that we can
continue to minister effectively in the coming years,
either in this location or another.
- Break out of traditional systems to create a more
welcoming environment that encourages meaningful
connections with one another.
- Proactively engage individuals of diverse backgrounds
and cultures in the daily life of the church
- Ensure that Calvary is a safe, trusting environment to
discuss differing points of view
- Be open to change; empower our staff and lay leadership
to be creative risk takers, using their expertise
and good judgment as a guide
Having asked the questions and gathered the
responses, we now begin our exploration of these issues
because of their significance to each of us. We believe
our current pastoral staff and lay leadership can help us
in the early going. And when he or she joins us, our new
Senior Pastor will bring fresh ideas and strengths to
guide us on this journey to our future. But candidates
need not feel that these decisions will be theirs alone.
Rest assured, Calvary’s journey will be a team effort with
many willing workers sharing the load and trusting in
God’s guidance in what the future holds for us.
