Worship at Calvary

Calvary currently offers two worship services on Sunday morning. The first service held in the chapel is less formal than the second service held in the sanctuary, which can also be viewed on our Web site. During the summer months a single service is held in the sanctuary.
A worship committee comprised of the Senior Pastor, Director of Music and two lay members meets each week to plan worship. Using a somewhat traditional worship style as a starting point, we enjoy the use of video clips, skits, artists, liturgical dance and a variety of special guests as enhancements to the worship experience.
An informal time of greeting each other and welcoming
visitors is an integral part of the service. First-time guests
receive a home-baked loaf of bread as a symbol of Jesus,
the bread of life. Several pastors participate in leading
worship, although the Senior Pastor generally preaches
the sermon. Lay members take an active role in assisting
the pastoral staff with worship service leadership.
Communion is served the first Sunday of each month.
With full latitude to preach on topics of their choice,
our pastors typically deliver sermons with a Biblical focus
that touch people in their own Christian faith walk.
However, sermon topics may also include a focus on
evangelism, stewardship or relevant and timely social
issues. The ministers serve communion, assisted by lay
members representing different ministry areas or church
school classes on a rotating basis.
Music is an integral part of our worship. Calvary
follows a blended music format with the use of traditional
hymns, contemporary music, classic to modern
anthems and praise songs. Vocalists, instrumentalists,
a bell choir, small ensembles, a youth choir and two
children’s choirs supplement the regular worship
presence of the chancel choir and the praise band.
We also celebrate various events in the life of our
church family during worship, such as births, baby
dedications, baptisms, graduations and the welcoming
of new members.
