Foreword
The Pastoral Search Team of Calvary Baptist Church of
Denver prepared this Church Profile as a tool in its search
for a new Senior Pastor. Over the past few months, we
used these resources to gather data that presents a comprehensive picture of our congregation, its strengths
and its opportunities.
- The Pastoral Search Inventory of the Hartford Seminary
- Connecting Point dinner discussions
- Calvary Cafés, following the World Café discussion
model
- Interviews with former staff, Region representatives and
individuals from several outreach ministries
We also took advantage of research done in the recent
past.
- 2004 study of Calvary’s surrounding neighborhood
- Selected results and ensuing work resulting from an
Appreciative Inquiry process undertaken in 2004; we
updated much of that data in our pastoral search data-gathering
process
We hope this Profile will be a useful resource that will
promote communication between Calvary and prospective
candidates for the position of Senior Pastor. We look
forward to your interest and your questions. Please
contact any of the individuals listed at the end of the
Profile. We also encourage you to use www.calvarydenver.org as a dynamic source of information about who
we are, how we worship and the ways in which we serve
the Lord together.
Who we are as a people
In a world of compelling needs and contentious differences,
we seek to be a faith community united in Christ.
While Calvary has a long, illustrious history and rich
denominational traditions, contemporary ideas influence
how we live as Christians in the world today.
We are a vibrant, energized congregation that accepts
individuals from diverse spiritual, theological, social,
political, economic and cultural backgrounds. Our
purpose is to welcome all of God’s people to join us
in learning, worship and fellowship.
Calvary’s former pastors richly blessed us with
outstanding preaching and pastoral care, building in our
church a strong belief in the four Baptist freedoms. Thus,
we embrace all who want to grow in faith. Calvary is a
safe place for people to ask questions and receive support
on their spiritual journey. We emphasize education,
nurturing and gradual growth in individual faith. Our
congregation enjoys meaningful worship highlighted
by a music program that uses a blend of traditional
and contemporary music styles to celebrate God’s love.
We have strong lay leadership and professional staff
and a well-educated congregation that gives of its time
and talents to the church. Global and local mission giving
and service to others has deep roots in our tradition. We
are a warm and caring church family that nurtures and
cares for one another and with whom we gladly share
our many gifts.
