Peace, Justice and Mercy meetings Peace, Justice, and Mercy is a Calvary endeavor to live out a more compassionate faith and bring about change that serves the disinherited: through education and discussion
through interest groups and action
Our concern as Christians goes beyond people to include the well-being of the creation. Valuing, protecting and preserving our environment are part of that task. This ethic protects the sanctity of life in all its forms, including economic justice, with the underlying premise that wealth belongs first to our God. Our Christian ethic includes such areas as housing, justice, healthcare for all, peace as opposed to war (pacifism and just war theory) and restorative justice for prisoners. In God’s Politics, Jim Wallis says the Bible is always personal but never private. Marcus Borg says the Bible is always personal and always political—speaking against empire-building and for the poor, the needy, the orphan, the widow, the stranger. Jesus’ life and ministry constantly challenged the politics of the empire in which he lived, and the legalistic religious structures that often lacked grace. Jesus was all about grace for the tax collector, the unacceptable, the leper, the prostitute, the one caught in adultery, the blind, the lame. As a safe haven for honest discourse on prioritized issues, we intend to offer options and a broad, balanced perspective for those issues. Our immediate task is to establish realistic priorities and share information about the needs in our community. You are invited! As we disseminate information and future plans unfold, we welcome your ideas and presence. Questions? Contact the church office, 303.757.8421. |
