Calvary Baptist Church of Denver Kid's School Programs

Beginning with our tiniest learners in the nursery, through toddlers, preschoolers and elementary school, Calvary has a rich educational offering.

Crib Room
Trained, screened and loving workers care for infants up to age 2 years in our nursery.  We have the highest standards of safety and cleanliness. We place a priority on maintaining a quality childcare staff. Infants are cared for based on their schedules and parents’ preferences. Pagers provide quick parent contact. Faith concepts are introduced through music, play, toys and stories.  The nursery is open from 8 am–12:15 pm on Sundays. When the church changes to its summer worship schedule in June, the nursery is open from 9 am –noon.

Toddlers
Once children are 2 years old, they move into our 2/3 year old class. Two members of our childcare staff lead the children in guided play, snacks, songs and games. Faith learning revolves around a Bible story curriculum, learning the six key concepts: Jesus, God, Bible, Love, Church and Prayer. This group gathers in room 5 from 9:30 am–12:15 pm on Sundays. When the church changes to its summer worship schedule, this group gathers from 9:15–noon.

Preschoolers
Once children turn 4, they move into our 4/5 year old class. Our focus is on building faith vocabulary, familiarity with Bible stories and creative expression through art and song. They will also have the opportunity to have guided play out on the playground. A snack is included in the morning activities. This group gathers for church school with two trained teachers in room 6 from 9:30–11:30 am.

Elementary School Children
Children, first through fourth grade, focus on creative and interactive ways to learn about faith, using a teacher-rotational model. The rotational model uses music, crafts, story tellers and hands on activities. A snack is included in the morning activities. All of our church workers with children have been screened and trained according to our Framework of Safety policy, designed to protect and provide peace of mind for parents.  Children, first through fourth grade, have church school from 9:30–10:30 am on Sundays. (In the summer, children to 9:30 am worship; they go to Creative Time after the children’s sermon until parents pick them up.) Children in first and second grade gather in room 10. Children in third grade gather in room 7. Children in fourth grade gather in room 9.

Children in fifth grade gather in room 4a for a discipleship class. This class allows for deeper learning and discussion of the Bible. Children use their Bible along with a workbook during class. This class gathers from 9:30–10:30 am on Sundays.  (In the summer, children go to 9:30 am worship; they go to Creative Time after the children’s sermon until parents pick them up.)

Creative Time is for children 4 years old through fourth grade. Children go to worship with their parents. During worship there will be a children’s story, after which your children will leave worship and go to Creative Time in room 11. Children enjoy a variety of activities including dramatic play, crafts and snacks related to a Bible story. Parents pick children up in room 11 after worship.

Calvary's childcare leaders have been screened and trained according to our *Framework of Safety policy. Paid workers have passed a fingerprint search by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and are CPR & First Aid certified. Volunteer teachers have completed applications, passed screening measures and always work in teams of two.

*Framework of Safety: Calvary values the lives of our children and other vulnerable people. We have a written plan to protect these people while they are in our care. Calvary staff, teachers, and volunteers adhere to screening and training. Reporting and response procedures are also in place.
