MOMentum
Are you interested in getting together with a small group of moms with whom you can receive love, support and fellowship? Your kids can be any age; join us with or without them. Share struggles, joys and laughter in a safe, nurturing environment. There is ample space for kids to be held, bounc in a bouncy seat or roam free with tricycles and cars. Occasionally we plan a special outing or event. All momentum gatherings are free. Friends and neighbors are welcome.
MOMentum meets at 9 am at Calvary on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Babette Hudson-Tsao will be the facilitator. If you are interested or have any questions, contact Babette, 303.358.8912 or Babette.Tsao@gmail.com.
Crib Room
Trained, screened and loving workers care for infants up to walkers in our nursery. We have the highest standards of safety and cleanliness. We place a priority on maintaining a quality childcare staff. Infants are cared for based on their schedules and parents’ preferences. Pagers provide quick parent contact. Faith concepts are introduced through music, play, toys and stories. The nursery is open from 8 am–12:15 pm on Sundays. When the church changes to its summer worship schedule in June, the nursery is open from 9 am to noon.
Toddlers
Once children begin walking, they move into our Toddler classroom. The Toddlers have their own curriculum by David C. Cook Publishing called, “Bible-In-Life.” Here, children employ multiple-learning styles to explore the correlation between God’s word and our daily lives. Two members of our childcare staff lead the children in guided play, snacks, songs and games. This group gathers in room 5 from 9:30 am–12:15 pm on Sundays. When the church changes to its summer worship schedule, this group gathers from 9:15–noon.
Preschoolers
Once children turn 3, they move into our 3- and 4-year-old class. At this developmental stage, our focus shifts to building faith vocabulary, familiarity with Bible stories and creative expression through art and song. Recently, we began including this age in the worship service. Children remain in worship through the Word for God’s Children. This allows our preschoolers to actively participate in worship with our larger, multigenerational church family. In fair weather, children may go outside and enjoy guided play times on the playground. A snack is included in the morning activities. This group gathers for church school with two trained teachers in room 6 beginning at 9:30 am. Childcare is provided until the end of the 10:55 worship service.
Elementary School Children
Children, preschool through fourth grade, enjoy creative and interactive ways of cultivating faith using a curriculum called Rock Solid. This model helps children understand biblical truths by a fun, practical means that provides continuity to the significant events of the liturgical year. It encourages meaningful, instructive interaction with other children in the same age group. Every week, kids are able to participate in Bible story reading, memory verses, crafts, music and other fun activities. Mimi Leonard and Emily Crile trade off each month and rotate from classroom to classroom to add a creative, musical element to the morning’s activities. At Calvary, we believe that music provides a uniquely expressive avenue by which we can engage our bodies, minds, hearts and souls in worship.
Children in first and second grade gather in room 7. Children in kindergarten gather in room 9. Children in third and fourth grade gather in room 10. Fifth graders gather in room 4a for a discipleship class using a curriculum called Bridges of Promise. This class allows for deeper learning, discussion and exploration of one the foundational Gospels—Mark. During this class, children use their Bible along with a workbook that is provided at the beginning of the year.
Adults and youth who work with children have been screened and trained according to our Framework of Safety policy, designed to protect our vulnerable populations and provide peace of mind for parents. All children, preschool through fourth grade, have church school from 9:30–10:30 am on Sundays. The schedule changes regularly each summer.
Workshops
Twice a year, preschoolers through 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in seasonal workshops. Each unique event features elements unique to its liturgical season. At the Easter Workshop, which is held during the church school hour, children hear and see the Easter story retold through live theatre, enjoy games in the renovated gym space, create an Easter craft and enjoy a snack together. In December, during the Christmas workshop, children are reminded of the momentous importance of Christ’s birth as they enjoy community projects in the children’s area, music making, snacks, having their picture taken and another quality theatrical presentation made by the Calvary Youth.
VBS
This summer, Calvary continues its outreach to Calvary families and community through the annual Vacation Bible School event. Children pre-K up to 5th grade are invited to gather together for a week in the summer to enjoy games and skits, make music, eat and create delicious snacks together and hear stories from the Bible set to contemporary contexts.
Creative Time is for children 4 years old through 4th grade. Children go to worship with their parents. During worship there will be a children’s story, after which your children will leave worship and go to Creative Time in room 11. Children enjoy a variety of activities including dramatic play, crafts and snacks related to a Bible story. Parents pick children up in room 11 after worship.
Family Time
On the first Sunday of each month, preschoolers through 5th grade and on up to 12th grade meet in the gym for the first 15 minutes of church school. This collective educational environment is filled with a devotional message, scripture reading, songs and a game for children and youth to play together. It is a practical and visual way in which intergenerational ministry happens at Calvary. Here children and youth alike can learn about important upcoming events in the life of the church, share space and the ministry of "presence" and join hearts and voices together in praise.
