Build on the Past … Reach for the Future

A Statement of Purpose

For more than 40 years, Calvary’s building at 6500 E. Girard Ave. has been our primary mission center where people of all ages shared inspirational worship, built lifelong relationships and reached out to others in Denver, across the United States and around the globe. Now, just as then, our building is the place in which every aspect of our ministry is strengthened as we are consistently challenged to grow in faith and from which we go forth to put our Christian faith into action.

But the condition of our facility today reflects the ministry and mission that flourished within our walls in recent years. Two Korean congregations, a Romanian congregation, Sudanese classes, a singles program, Alcoholics Anonymous groups, English as Second Language courses, the Interfaith Hospitality Network, Calvary’s Early Learning Center, Adult Daycare, the Calvary Counseling Center, the 9Health Fair and much more. These programs and events have made Calvary a familiar haven within our diverse community. Add to these activities the programming for children, students and adults who make up the Calvary family. From worship, weddings, baptisms and funerals to Bible study, business meetings, small groups and large events, our building hosts hundreds of in-house gatherings each year. No wonder our building looks tired and worn.

Our vision for tomorrow revolves around a facility that is equally busy in sharing God’s love in tangible and meaningful ways. We envision a bright, welcoming place that inspires and encourages all who enter. Our goal is to renew and restore our building to a level of quality that matches our core values of service, connection, growth and diversity. And as we complete building improvements that impact each part of our facility, we will witness expanded, creative and meaningful children’s and student programs, connections with more new families and individuals, and enhanced opportunities for outreach to engage the hearts and minds of all who are drawn to our doors.

Calvary’s identity, proud heritage and legacy to future generations will be alive and well—demonstrated and reflected in each of us—in our continued quest to be a Christ-like community that experiences and shares God’s love.

Campaign leadership

We have engaged a professional consultant to guide us in this effort. David Manting, founder of Boulder-based Omega Strategy Group, has been at the forefront of innovative faith-based stewardship consulting for more than 20 years. His background also includes 10 years of local church ministry.

David will work directly with Calvary’s campaign steering committee, which encompasses these leadership functions: overall coordination, campaign directors, leadership gifts, stewardship coordination, communications, phone contact, ambassadors (speakers), prayer support, special events management and children/youth activities. The campaign steering committee is as follows: Noelle Allison, Anne Comstock, Dave Crane, Mick Davey, Corry Doty, Marie Dykes, Lori Grohskopf, Brian Henderson, Glenn Hill, Michelle Honeycutt, Doug Hulst, Ron Johnson, Margie Jonell, Diane Newcom, Walter Rowell, Sara Sieker, Bruce Whitaker and Jeff Whitaker. In turn, these leaders will enlist and train up to 100 volunteers from the congregation who will be involved in telling the story, providing information, motivation, inspiration, prayer support, and asking for your commitment—all vital components of a successful campaign.
