ADULT CHURCH SCHOOL CLASSES

One of the hallmarks of Calvary over the years has been its Adult Church School Class program. The classes provide distinctive opportunities for growth and enrichment. They meet Sunday at 9:30 am September–May and are formed through relationships, by age groupings, and/or by interest. All classes are inclusive of singles and couples. Four adult classes use Seasons of the Spirit, an ecumenical, lectionary-based curriculum also used in children and youth church school. Its value is that families can study and discuss the same messages and scripture outside the church setting. Periodically specialized classes and forums are offered.

In the summer, classes may continue meeting individually or join dynamic adult forums at 9 am. Relevance is key in creating these forums. Here's last summer's offerings.

Visitors are encouraged to try several classes until they feel at home with a class that will meet their faith growth needs. New members are welcome in each class.

This is an overview of adult church school offerings for the fall. There is a place for you! For room locations see map at bottom of page.

Agape. (Agape – the Greek work for love, the highest form of love, a love God has for humankind that is self-sacrificing and unconditional.) The Agape Class is made up of young adults who strive to love one another and to love others as we study, serve, pray and fellowship together. Designed for 20-30 somethings, Agape includes college students, recent college graduates or graduate students and young folks who might be single, married and/or parents. We have begun a fun fellowship program called Agape after Hours. We welcome any young adults to come as you can! We meet for lunch, dinner and other fun opportunities, usually on Sunday afternoons or evenings.

Ambassadors. (Originally formed after the concept of “Ambassadors for Christ” found in the New Testament books of Corinthians.) The class consists mostly of adults in their 60s and 70s, singles and couples with varied backgrounds and theologies who like to discuss and share. We enjoy socials once or twice a year in our class members’ homes and once or twice a year on Sunday mornings to share a brunch in our class room.

Berean. (Likens itself after the Bereans, inhabitants of the ancient city of Berea, know to “eagerly examine the scriptures every day to see whether these things were so, and many of them believed.”) The Berean Class consists of adults ages 75 and over who study Scripture, care for its members through the realities of older age, share prayer concerns, and enjoy a hymn at the beginning of each class. We welcome new members and have a place for you to be cared for, to contribute and to learn!

While the class welcomes people of all ages, it has attracted many people in the midst of raising a family. The joys and challenges of parenting are central to our discussions. Insight values diversity of thought and an open perspective on faith. We have periodic social gatherings. You are welcome to join us on this journey of faith and life!

Koinonia. (Koinonia –Greek word used frequently in the New Testament to describe the relationship within the early Christian church community. Its many meanings include community, communion, joint participation, sharing and intimacy.)
The Koinonia Class is a wonderful fellowship of folks composed of couples around 60-70 years of age who embrace a variety of perspectives. We fellowship outside of class three or four times a year, and care for each other with meals and prayers and hospital visits. We share breakfast together in lieu of class two or three times a year to discuss curriculum, teachers, and goals. We sincerely seek new members.
